There’s no such thing as a free lunch

Working with idioms and proverbs is a great challenge for the teacher and the students as well. They are required to have a lot of knowledge and skills, such as pure linguistic knowledge of the proverb, its words and meaning, its context of use and application, its meaning and its content, the synthesis of a specific image to reproduce as an illustration of the proverb itself, and ultimately to give their opinion through the illustration.

Methodically, this lesson was worked as a project in 2 classes of 40 minutes. The first period was used for selecting proverbs, working with their vocabulary, analyzing meaning and content, and assigning personal tasks. The Illustration of the proverb was done at home as homework, and the next period passed in the presentation of the projects and self-evaluation of the students’ work. The illustrations below are a result of the students’ selection.
